Despite sharing a name with a literary Frenchman famous for escaping prisons, escape will be the last thing on your mind while staying at the idyllic Papillion Lagoon Reef, in fact it would be a joy to spend a lifetime here. Built in a traditional Swahili style, the hotel is based on the stunning sands of Diani Beach, widely regarded as the finest in the whole of Kenya, and is surrounded by lush, exotic gardens, ancient baobab trees and even the odd misbehaving colobus monkey. The hotel’s outstanding location makes it an excellent base from which to take a safari tour deep into the romantic African wilderness. Down on the beach, the alluring waters of the Indian Ocean await you and are best explored by scuba diving. The hotel’s resident dive team will be happy to take you to the colourful and kaleidoscopic coral reefs that lie just off the coast. Alternatively, you can stay at the beach and enjoy a spot of fishing and maybe catch something for the BBQ later, or try your hand at the various water sports on offer. If you tire of the beach, unlikely though it is, the hotel also provides onsite tennis courts. Beach football and volleyball are popular activities too. Children are really well provided for at the Papillion Lagoon Reef. Highchairs and cots are available on request, although if you need to prepare milk or food yourself, it is recommended you book a beachfront room, as these come with a fridge. There is also a fun indoor play area, and range of activities to enjoy such as table tennis, pool, table football and board games. The hotel also provides a babysitting service, allowing parents to enjoy some time to themselves knowing their children are in a safe and supervised environment (24hr prior notice is usually required).
